Henderson County celebrates record-breaking tourism numbers for 2023

Economic impact reaches unprecedented heights, boosting local economy and community growth

Henderson, Ky. (May 31, 2024) – The Henderson Tourist Commission is proud to announce that 2023 was a landmark year for tourism, with record-breaking numbers that have a significant impact on the local economy. This unprecedented growth underscores the county’s appeal as a destination for travelers and highlights the successful efforts of local businesses, attractions, and tourism initiatives.

According to the newly released report prepared by Tourism Economics for the Kentucky Department of Tourism, $95.7 million in total visitor spending occurred in Henderson County 2023, marking a 12% increase from the previous year. The industry sustained 609 jobs, accounting for $17.8 million in labor income. This continued growth in tourism benefits a wide range of sectors, including hospitality, retail, and entertainment.

“We are thrilled to see such incredible growth in the tourism sector of our local economy,” said Abby Dixon, executive director of the Henderson Tourist Commission. “These record-breaking numbers are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our local businesses, attractions, and community partners. The economic benefits from this surge will have a lasting positive impact on our county.”

Using the Tourism Economics model, Gov. Andy Beshear announced $13.8 billion in economic impact generated by tourism to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, signaling not only a record year in Henderson, but also for the state a as a whole.

“Our economy and our tourism industry are booming. More and more people want to visit Kentucky for our world-class destinations and events – creating more experiences for their families while generating jobs for Kentuckians,” said Gov. Beshear. “Kentucky is on the biggest tourism and economic roll of our lifetime, and this is a direct result of Team Kentucky’s hard work and investments in building a thriving, welcoming tourism industry. Together, we will continue to expand this success and welcome visitors to experience the natural beauty and warm hospitality of our new Kentucky home.”
