SUMMARY:Youth Wilderness Survival Workshop (Ages 10-16)
DESCRIPTION:The annual Youth Wilderness Survival Workshop will be on Saturday\, March 7\, from Noon to 3 PM\, at John James Audubon State Park. This is aimed at those ages 10-16. If you have someone in the family that likes to explore\, or you have a family vacation planned for a hiking/camping adventure\, this may be a good base for developing outdoor and situational awareness. Hike-preparedness and basic survival skills will be discussed. Whoever attends will get hands-on practice at knot-tying\, primitive fire building and debris hut shelter making. Explore the rich\nartistry and history of John James Audubon’s life and work through an Audubon Museum visit.\nYour admission is included. Choose from several educational presentations: Friday evening\,\nlearn from the Museum Curator about the birds John James Audubon drew in Kentucky.\nSaturday morning/afternoon\, advance your birdwatching skills with a “Birding Basics”\npresentation and explore the woods on a guided birding hike. Saturday evening\, gain info about\neagles in Kentucky from a Fish and Wildlife biologist and experience the park’s live bird of prey\nprogram.\nRegistration must be made in advance: $45 for Ky Wild members; $50 for non-members;\nminimum age to participate is 12. DESCRIPTION:Some operate under cover of darkness\, others are readily seen during the day\, but much is still unknown about the life of raptors. How much do you know about these winged predators? Meet our naturalists in the Audubon Museum for this “Raptors of the Region” presentation on Saturday\, Feb. 21 at 7:15 P.M. to learn more about these interesting animals. Several LIVE birds of prey will be shown during the program. Great for all ages to enjoy! This is being offered in conjunction with the “Audubon Wild” event. The public is encouraged to attend.
