Audubon Sculpture Walking Tour

Henderson was the Kentucky home of John James Audubon and is the current home of the John James Audubon State Park and Museum. The downtown city sculptures were created in conjunction with the City of Henderson, the Downtown Henderson Project and the Renaissance Kentucky Project.

Kentucky native Raymond Graf created the cast-bronze sculptures based on paintings from Audubon's "Birds Of America" series. To read an article on Graf and the Audubon sculptures that appeared in the June 2008 issue of Y'all: The Magazine of Southern People, click here.

Henderson Historic Walking Tour

Henderson’s unique place in world trade at the close of the 19th century—largely due to the tremendous dark tobacco exporting business located here—provided the setting for the construction of a rather surprising number of expensive homes, given the size of the community.

In addition to grand homes, structures include city buildings, the library, banks and downtown businesses.

The properties on this walking tour were chosen because of some unusual or special feature of architectural charm or for historic value. They represent pre-Civil War architecture, the Italianate built around the 1860’s and 1870’s, and the fancier asymmetric Victorian built at the close of the century.

Spring Garden Cemetery Brochure

Spring Garden Cemetery is the burial place of General Samuel Hopkins, Jr., founder of Henderson, Kentucky.

The city of Henderson bought the overgrown cemetery in 2007, and with the hard work of many community members the cemetery, was dedicated in September 2011.

This brochure describes the restoration and importance of the cemetery, and also gives background information on Hopkins.

The cemetery is located behind the U.K. Extension Office, at 3099 Zion Road in Henderson. It is accessible by a quarter mile walking trail, located off the main parking lot. We reccomend printing this brochure and using it as a guide while viewing this important cemetery.
